چکیده

We report a patient with congenital Chagas disease in Japan. This report reemphasizes the role of neglected and emerging tropical diseases in the era of globalization. It also indicates the need for increased vigilance for detecting Chagas disease in non-disease-endemic countries.

Mother-child transmission of Chagas disease: could coinfection with human immunodeficiency virus increase the risk? Transmissão materno-fetal da doença de Chagas: poderia a co-infecção com vírus da imunodeficiência humana aumentar o risco?

A study was conducted on all newborns from mothers with Chagas disease who were attended at Hospital Donación F. Santojanni between January 1, 2001, and August 31, 2007. Each child was investigated for the presence of Trypanosoma cruzi parasitemia through direct examination of blood under the microscope using the buffy coat method on three occasions during the first six months of life. Serologi...

[Screening for congenital infection by Trypanosoma cruzi in France].

The importance of congenital transmission of Chagas' disease increases with its emergence in communities infected with Trypanosoma cruzi, but where vector transmission has never existed or is fully controlled through vector control campaigns. In both endemic and non-endemic areas, the rates of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) could be the same, by 5%, generating a constant source of new case...

High prevalence of congenital Trypanosoma cruzi infection and family clustering in Salta, Argentina.

OBJECTIVE Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas' disease, is transmitted mainly by insect vectors, but congenital and transfusion-borne infections occasionally occur. The factors that are involved in transmission from mother to offspring are not well understood. The objective of this study was to study the presence of T cruzi infection in children who were born to infected mothers an...

[Sequence of unusual Chagas infection transmissions in the same family: mother by blood transfusion and child congenitally, with a treatment-resistant strain of Trypanosoma cruzi].

The authors present two cases of unusual transmission of Chagas infection in the same family: the mother by blood transfusion and her second child across the placenta. The child was diagnosed by chance and etiological treatment for both the mother and the child was ineffective in eradicating the parasitemia. At present, they continue to present the indeterminate form of the disease.

Congenital Transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi Infection in Argentina

Congenital transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi infection in Argentina has being increasing its relative importance with control of vectorial and transfusional transmission growth. It is for this reason that vertical transmission is seen, in the future, as a continuous source of infected newborns, even with vectorial and transfusional transmission completely controlled. Preventing vertical transmi...
